Collection: Hali'a Aloha Collection

Our kūpuna are the living libraries of our culture, they hold the stories that breathe life into our traditions. This collection is born from one of those precious stories, a memory shared by my mama, of the Lahaina we carry in our hearts.

Before the devastating fires, our kūpuna would gather every Thursday on the lawn of the Baldwin Home. With nimble hands, they would sew fragrant plumeria lei, their laughter and stories carried on the gentle trade winds. They weren't just creating beautiful adornments, they were raising money for a scholarship program for Lahainaluna High School seniors, weaving a brighter future for the next generation. My mama’s eyes would sparkle as she recounted these afternoons, a time of simple beauty and deep community.

This story now carries a profound and tender weight, as some of her friends didn't survive the Lahaina fire. This collection is for them. It is for the kūpuna who know that time is not on their side and may never see Lahaina fully rebuilt. When you wear a piece from this collection, you are not just wearing a beautiful design, you are becoming a keeper of this memory, a walking testament to a legacy of love and aloha that can never be erased. It is a way for our kūpuna to see their stories carried forward, a living honor to their enduring spirit.

To bring this vision to life, I asked my cousin, Kapili Naehu-Ramos, to create a design that would capture the spirit of those days pouring so much heart into this work, and it is a profound honor to share it with you. The Haliʻa Aloha Collection is our small way of weaving the wisdom of generations past into our present, ensuring that the love and memories of Lahaina live on through us all.

Our Commitment to Our `Āina and Our Health

We believe that what we put on our bodies is just as important as what we put in them. That’s why we are deeply committed to using natural and regenerated fibers in our collections. We choose materials like TENCEL™, bamboo, cotton, and ECONYL® because they are not just better for the land, they are safer for our health.

Many conventional fabrics on the market are made from petroleum based plastics like polyester, and conventional nylon/rayon. These materials can contain harsh chemicals and dyes that may be absorbed through our skin, potentially disrupting our hormones and endocrine system. We believe that fashion should never come at the cost of our well being.

That's why we choose to invest in materials that are both gentler on the planet and on our bodies. ECONYL®, for example, is a groundbreaking regenerated nylon made from rescued waste, like discarded fishing nets, that would otherwise pollute our oceans and landfills. Through an innovative process, this waste is transformed into a high quality fiber that is just as durable and versatile as conventional nylon, but without the need for new oil. By choosing ECONYL®, we are actively cleaning up our planet and giving new life to materials that would have taken centuries to break down

Similarly, TENCEL™ is a premium fiber crafted from sustainably sourced wood pulp, while our bamboo and cotton are chosen for their purity and breathability. Every piece in our collections are a conscious choice, a small step toward a more sustainable future.

By choosing Henōhea, you are supporting a 'ohana small business that prioritizes human and planetary health. You are honoring the legacy of our kūpuna and becoming a part of a story of love, resilience, and hope, a story we are so honored to share with you.
