A Design Stitched with Meaning, Shaped by Imperfection, and Lined with Confidence.

The collection you sold out is here! The beloved 'Ulu Kapa Kuiki in Meleana One Piece Swimsuit returns for a new chapter in our story. This design, an evolution of our love for Lahaina and still grounded in Ka Malu ʻUlu O Lele, is stitched with meaning, shaped by imperfection, and brought to life by the most unexpected artist: our youngest son and inspiration behind our brand, Henōhea himself.

Without even knowing it, Henōhea’s hand helped shape part of this pattern. His unfiltered marks, unpolished, unplanned, and completely perfect, remind us that beauty is often found in what’s real and raw. This design doesn’t strive for flawlessness. Instead, it embraces every uneven line, every wobble, every honest stroke. It's a piece of him. A piece of us.

And just as this design reflects our deepest values, so does the material we chose to carry it.

Why We Chose ECONYL® (For You and the Planet)

When you choose our 'Ulu Kapa Kuiki Meleana swimsuit, you’re not just picking a beautiful design, you’re making a conscious choice that’s better for you and the planet.

ECONYL® flips this on its head. It’s a 100% regenerated nylon made from rescued waste, like discarded fishing nets that would otherwise pollute our oceans and landfills. Through an innovative process, this waste is broken down and rebuilt into a high-quality fiber.

The Real Magic: Body Positive Liner

The real magic lies within. The liner is printed with body positive affirmations, offering you a personal reminder of your strength, beauty, and limitless potential. Each time you wear it, you’re wrapped in a daily dose of self-confidence and love, empowering you to stand tall and embrace life unapologetically.

The Feel of the Fabric

Our swimsuit is crafted from a blend of 83% ECONYL® and 17% elastane. The ECONYL® provides strength, durability, and resistance to chlorine and UV rays, while the elastane gives it the perfect comfortable stretch. The fabric has a smooth, soft feel against your skin and moves with you effortlessly.

Fabric & Care

Our pieces are crafted from a premium blend of 95% Bamboo and 5% Elastane. We chose this specific blend for its luxurious drape, softness, and breathable comfort, perfect for island living and gentle on sensitive skin.

Care Instructions
To preserve the life of your garment and the vibrancy of our signature ʻulu print:

  • Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors.
  • Use mild, eco-friendly detergent to protect the natural fibers and AZO-free dyes.
  • Lay flat to dry is recommended, or tumble dry on low heat.
  • Iron on a low setting only if needed.
  • Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, which can break down the integrity of the bamboo fibers.

A Note on Natural Processes
Because we prioritize OEKO-TEX® certified materials and reactive, AZO-free dyes, you may notice slight variations or a natural shift in color over time. We embrace these changes as a sign of the fabric’s natural integrity and our journey away from the harsh, toxic "perfection" of big box fashion.

Our Commitment

From Factory to Family
At Henōhea, we believe that the story of a garment begins long before it reaches your hands. The choices we make in our manufacturing process have a ripple effect that touches everyone involved, from the factory workers to the surrounding communities where our pieces are created.

Human Centered Production & Safety
Traditional textile manufacturing often exposes workers to hazardous chemicals and releases toxic runoff into their local water sources. By insisting on a closed-loop system and OEKO-TEX® certified materials, we are advocating for a safer environment for the hands that carefully craft our collections. Our use of AZO-free reactive dyes ensures that our colors bond to the fiber rather than leaching onto your skin or into the water. This choice minimizes the risk of respiratory issues and skin sensitivities for workers and protects the health of the communities surrounding our manufacturing facilities.

Protecting the ʻĀina and Beyond
When we keep solvents out of the environment at the source, we are protecting global waterways that eventually connect us all. For us, this is a commitment to the ʻāina that extends from the place of origin to right here in Maui, ensuring that the legacy we leave behind is one of abundance and health, not toxicity.

The Full Circle
While we strive for the highest standards, we want to be transparent: achieving a 100% toxic-free status is an almost impossible challenge in the current global textile industry. We recognize that perfection is not always attainable, but we are deeply committed to learning, growing, and pivoting with every collection to find cleaner ways forward not just for our customers, but for the people who make our brand possible and the world where our pieces eventually land.
